When I first star­ted out in web site design I was given a list of essen­tial ques­tions from the per­son who taught me, to ask poten­tial clients. These ques­tions really help with the design process of a clients web site and graphics and I always use them every time I have clients come to me for my services. The ques­tions help engage both the client and com­pany in the process and it is a way for both the client and com­pany to unders­tand each other on all levels.

Here are the ques­tions you are waiting for. Sorry if this post is a bit large but I can say I don’t want to skip anything out, hope you all don’t mind :) .

Web Design Plan­ning Questions:

1. What is your prefer­red method of con­tact? Email/Phone
2. What time is the best time to reach you?
3. Do you have a website plan?
4. How many total web-pages will you need or do you think you will need (App­roximate)?
5. Is it pos­sible for you to give me a rough tree structure of your website?
6. Is your site for a business, per­sonal, or non-profit?
7. Descrip­tions – a general descrip­tion of your website pur­pose (Please Let me know what apply):

  • To provide information
  • To teach
  • To sell products
  • To provide communication
  • To help gain new business
  • To collect information
  • Any other information

8. Your tar­get audience – a descrip­tion of who your visitors will be?
9. What keywords do you think people will type in a search engine to find your products and services?
10. Features that you would like to offer: Mes­sage board, Articles, News­let­ter, Photographs of products etc.
11. What regions do you service?
12. Any Admired websites/ Other Sites… Please List some sites that you admire.
13. Time Frame – When do you expect to have your website com­pleted?
14. Main­tenance – Will you need changes to the website? – If yes, how often will you need them?
15. Con­tent – Where will I get con­tent for all web-pages?
16. Images… Where can I get images for your website? Will there be a need to take some latest Pictures using Digital Camera?
17. Do you have a logo? If not, do you have any logo con­cept in mind?
18. Do you have any color preference for your website? Please provide few colors you wish your website to be desig­ned in.
19. Link Popularity… Do you know any website that is related to your theme who might link to you?
20. Do you need hos­ting?
21. Do you need a domain name?
22. If you require a domain name, what 5 choices would interest you?
